1. d4 f5 After only one move I'm out of my opening book having never faced the Dutch Defence. Looks like I'm on my own from here!
2. Nf3 Nf6 3. c4 d6 4. Nc3 e6 5. Bg5 5. g3 6. Bg2 is a stronger idea aiming at e4 and getting the king to safety.
5... Be7 6. e3
moving the pawn again, and not doing much for the development of black's pieces.
9. Qc2 a6 10. Ne5 Nbd7 11. f4 Nxe5 12. fxe5 Ng4 13. Bxe7 Qxe7 14. Rf3?!
aiming to develop the rook to aid in kingside play, but ends up becoming a liability instead.
14. Nd1
14... Bd7
black needed to free his pieces with 14... dxc4
15. h3= Nh6
15... dxc4 is still better
16. Ne2= Rac8 17. c5 hems in the black bishop.
17... Be8 the idea of Bh5 to get some activity is something I overlooked when playing the rook to f3.
18. Nf4 g5 19. Rg3 Kh8 removes the pin attacking the N again which has no option but to retreat to...
20. Ne2 Bh5 now the black bishop is active and the R on g3 has no squares available with the threat of ...f4.
21. Rf1 the most obvious way to prevent f4.
21... Rf7 intending to double rooks to prepare f4 push. e5-pawn is serving a great job of keeping black out of f6 though.
22. Qd2 brings another piece against the f4 square.
22... Rcf8 23. Bc2 gives the Rook escape to b3 if needed.
23... Bg6 24. Bd1 g4?! having thrown his pawns forward, black felt that he had to do something to break through - this gives him a bad bishop and knight and lets my knight back into f4. Despite the pressure black has, there seems to be no way into the white camp.
25. Nf4 the horse jumps for joy and uncovers the bishop in the process
25... Rg7 26. hxg4 fxg4 27. Bxg4?
a bad move. I thought the pawn was safe to capture.
27... Nf5?
... but black didn't see 27 ...Be4 either, uncovering a double attack! Not easy to spot with so much going on.
27... Be4 28. Rgf3 Rxf4 (28... Bxf3 29. Bxf3
)
(28... Rxg4 29. Nxd5
)
(28... Nxg4 29. Nxd5
)
29. Rxf4 Nxg4
28. Bxf5 Bxf5 29. Rxg7 Qxg7 30. Qf2
Kg8
31. Nh5 Qg6
32. Nf6+
Look how good the knight is!
32... Kg7 33. Qh4 Rf7?
Cuts off the queen retreat squares leading to...
34. Rf3! with the threat Rg3!
34... Rxf6 giving up the exchange is the only option
34... Qh6?? is no better 35. Ne8+ (35. Rg3+ Bg6 36. Ne8+ Kf8 37. Qxh6+)
35... Kg6 36. Rg3+ Bg4 37. Rxg4+ Kf5 38. Nd6#
34... Kf8?? 35. Rg3 Qxg3 36. Qxg3
35. exf6+ Qxf6??
this pawn can't be captured safely - all hope is lost!
35... Kf7 is the only move that offers resistance
36. Qxf6+ Kxf6 37. g4 and a nice little tactic to finish it off - black resigned.
