I am a little worried that grades for the highest grades players will not just go up to 300 by 2012 unless adjustments are made every year.
The aim of cource is to get everybodys grades nearer to make it more incentive to play everyone.

I think partly the reason why we not all playing with FIDE .Is to have a FIDE grade you need to be a registered player with your country & in our case is £16 this will stop a lot of players & will be bad for chess.

I think there may be an overhaul of the grading system and apparently the ECF are planning a new method of calculation for 2009-10. However I don't know how accurate this new system will be because I haven't seen it explained.
From a personal point of view, I don't see any reason why we can't adopt the Elo system as it would bring us in line with the rest of the world, not only that but I would find it fun to compare my rating to those of the world's finest players!
By the way, I like your suggestion for the conversion of ECF to FIDE as shown in your chart.

I think when the old ECF to FIDE formula spilt into above 216 ans below 216 they realised there was a major problem. A while back someone had compared grades of people across 5 or 10 years and found a deflation in the grades below 150.
What will be interesting is how it changes the mean grade in 2009,
